IndyCar and IndyCar Officiating have announced revised procedures in response to an incident involving ECR’s #20 Chevrolet driver Alexander Rossi on Saturday’s road course at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway. The change follows the driver’s claim that his car was damaged by a hybrid system, which led to a mechanical issue. After the incident, race control officials were informed that they would no longer consider pit window access and running order as factors when deploying a full-course yellow (FCY). This decision was made based on the consensus that only safety-related inputs determine the FCY escalation. The Independent Officiating Board chair, Raj Nair, emphasized that the focus should remain solely on driver safety. The president of IndyCar, Doug Boles, stressed the importance of maintaining a unified approach to ensure safe operations and alignment with the mission of protecting both drivers, crews, and fans. With these updates, the goal is to streamline processes while prioritizing the well-being of all participants.
